In 2000 leaders of the world's nations in cooperation with the UN developed eight Millennium Development Goals to make significant progress in solving the world's most pressing problems by 2015. One hundred eighty-nine nations have signed on (including the United States).
The MDGs are:
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3:Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental stability
Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development
The Episcopal Church is one of many churches that have made the MDGs a priority. Each diocese has been asked to commit itself to addressing one or more of these goals. At this time our diocese has chosen to focus on Goal 6 by focusing on eradicating malaria through the purchase of mosquito nets.A chemically treated net can be purchased for $12. Won't you join us and help in this worthy cause. Checks can be made to St. James Episcopal Church and on the memo line put mosquito net.
